A Commitment to Caring
Megan, Volunteer Helpline Advocate
In early June we gathered at The Nonantum Resort in Kennebunk for our annual Community Celebration; an opportunity to recognize our community partners as well as the volunteers who make our work possible. Megan, a volunteer Helpline advocate since 2020, shared the importance of Caring Unlimited’s services in her words. Below is an excerpt from her remarks.
My name is Megan. I am an avid reader and gardener; I have too many pets and too many plants; I enjoy hiking, skiing, and beaching; I am an engineer; I am a Helpline Volunteer.
In August of 2020 I moved to Maine for work. Suddenly I was in a different state, in a small town, in a small workplace, and I was feeling a bit secluded and alone. In need of more community, I started looking for volunteering opportunities… And that is how I stumbled upon Caring Unlimited.
What drew me towards Caring Unlimited right off the bat was the obvious importance they put on rooting out Domestic Violence, from all sides, through advocacy, community engagement, and education; their open and inclusive policies; and their determination to empower those currently experiencing Domestic Violence as well as the survivors.
A Commitment to SAFETY
Executive Director’s Message
Caring Unlimited’s unwavering commitments- to safety, to advocacy, and to our community, are at the core of our mission to end domestic violence in York County.
Our Community Celebration and Award recipients highlighted these values. Their remarks left me humbled by the power of dedicated and passionate people to make real and lasting changes. That evening, I think we all felt part of something larger than ourselves. We shared the impact of our services on survivors, reflected on our accomplishments over the year, and looked ahead to the work yet to be done.
